Europe Day 2024
The European Village is JEF Malta’s annual event where multiple student organisations are brought together in commemoration of Europe Day at the University of Malta’s Quadrangle. This year, the European Village included the Malta International Relations Student Association (MIRSA), the Malta Model United Nations Society (MaltMUN), the European Studies Organisation (ESO), the European Parliament Liaison Office (EPLO), the Institute for European Studies, Alliance Française Malta, and the Department of Translation, Terminology, and Interpreting Studies.
The European Village commemorates Europe Day on the 9th of May. In the spirit of celebrating Europe’s diversity, each student organisation was allocated a stand and tasked with bringing delicacies from a European region assigned to them. The event also provided the opportunity not only to us to promote our organisation, but also to other participating organisations in an effort to promote the importance of student activism as interest amongst youths has dwindled in the past few years.
The aim of the event especially this year was to promote the European Elections that took place on the 8th of June 2024 as well as the importance of being an active citizen. Our aim for the European Village was to provide an interactive and engaging environment for students to learn more about the European Union as well as the opportunities it provides for youth and European citizens. Through the ‘Wall of Thoughts’ set up near JEF Malta’s stand, we gave students the opportunity to express their views on the questions posed on the ‘Wall of Thoughts’ and any other general comments or statements in relation to the European Union.
The open-air event attracted a large number of students at the University of Malta where many frequented the organisations’ stands.
