International Seminar by JEF Bulgaria and UEF Bulgaria: ‘Fostering Youth Participation in the Democratic Life of the EU’

JEF Malta was present at the international seminar organised by JEF Bulgaria and UEF Bulgaria titled: Fostering Youth Participation in the Democratic Life of the EU, with organisation’s Vice President and International Officer Isaac Rizzo and the Public Relations Officer Kristina Mangion in attendance.

The seminar consisted of around 25 participants from a number of JEF sections and other organisations to learn more about what the European Union means for Bulgarian youth and others present from different parts of Europe. This gave insights into the different contexts and situations that European youth find themselves in with the opportunity to discuss shared challenges and how to move forward in terms of raising greater awareness on what the European Union offers to young people.

Furthermore, participants also discussed topical issues with MEPs, Ambassadors, and representatives from civil society alike, namely with regards to rule of law, the rise of extremism, together with the Western Balkans and their integration into the EU. In addition, a visit to Sofia’s Europe House helped attendees learn more about the work that goes on at a European level in Bulgaria.

In addition, the seminar included a tour around the capital city of Sofia and a hike in the countryside to bring greater awareness of Bulgaria’s history whilst allowing for time to network and interact with all of the participants so as to foster greater understanding between youth from different backgrounds.
